MATRIX 2008 College Scholarships

The people of MATRIX know that great companies do not become great existing in a vacuum. Our success and our future are based on more than performance and financial achievement. They are dependent upon our character as an organization. Character which compels us to become active participants in the communities in which we operate. And it inspires us to invest in the future. The MATRIX College Scholarship program reflects our investment in the young people who will become tomorrow's leaders.

MATRIX Donates Computers to Boys and Girls Club in Florida
MATRIX recently donated computer equipment to the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) of Nassau County in northeast Florida in support of that organization's mission of "Building a Better Future for Our Children." MATRIX is helping the BGC expand that effort with 38 PCs -- refurbished by our IT team. MATRIX Partner, Bill Gower provided additional support by driving the loaded truck for the long, 7-hour trip from Atlanta to Fernandina Beach and helping to unload the PCs with other volunteers. The PCs will be a key addition to the Computer Center in the Club's new, permanent facility – the Miller Freedom Center – which is opening in August.

MATRIX Sponsors Job Shadow Event
Recently MATRIX Atlanta hosted 20 Junior Achievement Job Shadow students from Dekalb County’s Cedar Grove High School who very eager for an up-close view of the “real world” of work. MATRIX Mentors from across the company volunteered their time to show them the ropes. Instructor Daarina Abdul-Mateen said, “The students were greatly moved in all aspects....it’s a first for many of them, not just job shadowing but actually seeing a company from the inside. Your employees really made a great difference in the lives of these students through their interactions, caring attitude and willingness to share their lives with them.”

Special Olympics
MATRIX Atlanta was there to lend support to the Special Olympics Georgia Summer Games when over 2,000 Special Olympians from around the state converged at Emory University to compete in Aquatics, Athletics, Soccer, Gymnastics, and Tennis. Many of our Atlanta Associates aided the swimmers as Athlete Escorts and others joined the fun as Fans in the Stands during the track and field competition. Inspired by the skill and willpower of these special athletes, one MATRIX Associate remarked, "The love and appreciation of the athletes was overwhelming. I felt like I really did something that made a difference."

TECH CORPS of Georgia
TECH CORPS GEORGIA (TCGA) is bridging the digital divide by helping students, teachers, and parents in disadvantaged schools and communities develop the skills they need to compete in a technology driven workforce. Since it was originally founded in 1993 as Computers for Classrooms, TCGA has refurbished and distributed more than 4,000 computers, as well as thousands of hours of training, to over 650 metro Atlanta K-12 teachers and 625 low-income families with school age children.
MATRIX has participated in this worthy program by donating dozens of refurbished computers and computer monitors to TCGA. In addition we are enabling TCGA users free access to more than 1,400 technical and project management e-Learning courses.
By partnering with schools, volunteers, and businesses, TCGA and MATRIX are truly expanding and redefining options for students who would otherwise not have opportunities to use or own computers.

My Turn Now, Inc.
Every year at Christmastime, the MATRIX family comes together to donate toys to My Turn Now, Inc., a not-for-profit advocacy organization that facilitates the adoption of children with special needs. These children are either members of a minority race, handicapped, over the age of eight, or members of a sibling group that needs to be adopted together – in other words, those traditionally considered to be unadoptable. Such children often linger in foster homes, waiting for "forever families," while many potential adoptive families are prevented from opening their hearts and homes to them by misconceptions and lack of information.

Star 94 "Cares For Kids" Radiothon
November 2004’s second annual Star 94 "Cares For Kids" Radiothon was a record-setting success. In just three short days, Atlantans’ generosity helped raise over $1.1 million dollars for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta!
Star 94's Steve & Vikki and Cindy & Ray hosted a three-day marathon broadcast to benefit Atlanta's premiere non-profit children's hospitals (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and Egleston).
Nineteen MATRIX Atlanta employees showed their dedication to the cause by manning the phone bank and taking pledges. Working the shifts proved to be a very rewarding experience for all who participated. Business Assistant Tracy Munroe expressed the same profound thoughts that many had:
“I am so thankful that I volunteered to help out with the Star94 "Cares for Kids" Radiothon. It's very easy, with our busy lifestyles, to forget about all those children and families out there that don't have the luxury of going to school everyday or going to work everyday - but instead they spend morning, noon, and night inside the walls of the children's hospital. It was a humbling experience and one that I will never forget.”

MATRIX Dallas employees either donated money or brought in wrapped gifts for the family, including clothing, toys, and items for the home. “By the time all of the gifts were wrapped, my cube was jam packed,” said MATRIX Dallas program coordinator Katie Leonard. “Everyone in the office was very generous and excited about making the holiday season memorable for the family. The Lopez family was extremely grateful when we dropped the gifts off. Alexandra even sang for us!”
