Why should you build a CareerCHART model? It will help you achieve four important things:
It focuses and assesses your needs. Creating a plan—a model—for your job search gives you the ability to target a position that will be fulfilling and challenging. It takes into consideration the realities of what’s available in the marketplace. Building a model will ensure you are charting the direction of your career—not just making a job move.
It helps you evaluate positions. You’ll use your CareerCHART Model as a reference when evaluating potential positions via the MATRIX Web site or the classifieds. The model helps keep you focused. It also is a tool for your MATRIX Associates as they evaluate incoming openings. It ensures that every position we present to you has been considered in light of your abilities, needs, and expectations.
It prepares you for the interview process. While building your CareerCHART Model, you are identifying the major points to make during your interview. When the interviewer begins asking you questions about your skills and project experience, you are ready to discuss your strengths and examples of how you have utilized your skills—you’ve already identified them through your model. A good rule of thumb: at least 50% of your model should come up in the interview; if not, this may not be the best opportunity for you.
It helps you evaluate job offers. You can use your CareerCHART Model as a control. Since each opportunity is unique, your model allows you to evaluate each offer for what it is in itself—and not against other offers that have different characteristics. By accepting the job offer that best matches your model, you will help ensure that your new position meets many of the key components you need to have a fulfilling IT career.
